Test Drive!

Test Drive

This is a test drive for The Last Resort. You can use one of the handy prompts or make up your own.

Prompts

Prompt #1

Your character is sent as part of a team to explore Subterranean Library #12. There are hostiles hiding in the dark that have to be safely bypassed without creating explosions and without getting shot. There are books that can be brought to the museum (or sold). What happens if two people with different intentions collide?

Prompt #2

So your character is out in the desert. It might be for a dig, a nice walk, doing something they shouldn't. Who knows? But unfortunately one of the worst invasive species is about to rear its head: a young sandworm.

This isn't something that happens often to people, and even this young it's going to take more than a normal gun as permitted on the planet, or the limited abilities that people currently possess. Most of what you would do would just slow it down.

This is one of these cases where it's better to run; you want to get to security or to a guide and report this, and you want to get out of the range of those teeth as fast as you can.

Prompt #3

You've been given a chance to tell the entire universe about your reasons for coming to the village and town as a part of a documentary in progress. Alternately, you have done so and are being confronted by your first fan in front of a friend. They've read all your fanfiction,, they ship you with some other import (maybe your friend, maybe someone else, maybe they actually hate your friend), and they printed out a picture of you that they want to have signed.

Prompt #4

Choose your own adventure (first network or log posts can later be used as game canon once related apps are approved).

Please help tag out if you're currently in the game and help introduce people to the game. If you have definitive preferences in play style, please mention it in your posts.

It's been with me for as long as I have been around, so it's approximately...

[He trails off, thinking for a few seconds.]

Probably about a millennium and a half. It is my core, my life essence. I suppose the heart might be a similar analogue for humans. It is tradition for my kind to cut our representative stone and set it as a sort of coming-of-age rite. It's a simple square cut set in silver. It's not my best work, really.

[He maintains a genial smile as he speaks.]

[The most important things Belloq gets out of the young--or, apparently, not so young--man's answer is that the gem is not only large, it is also an ancient artifact, which increases its value to Belloq tremendously.]

...a millennium and a half? It, and you, are from circum anno domino 500?

[In his surprise and greed he forgets for a moment that not everyone here is from Earth in the year 1936.]
exiledcore: (Alex WTF)

He belongs in a museum!

[The second Belloq slipped into his strange tongue, every fiber in Alex's being tensed. Then the moment passed. The man stopped talking, and it was clear he was asking something, not attempting a spell. Alex forced himself to relax, attempting to regain a more benevolent expression.]

I'm not sure what you mean.
archeologue: (nazi collaborator)

LOL!

If you are, as you say you are, one and a half thousand years old, that would put your birth year somewhere around the early Dark Ages.

How is that possible? It is the stone? [The young man said something about it being a life essence. He wonders if the gem could give immortality to anyone who possessed it.]

I'm... not sure. My lands have a very different history from the ones here. I dimly remember that the Windcaller clan had just established themselves in the Norn Mountains. They had noticed me crystallizing in an surface fissure and helped me out of it. I believe Ricrot IV was still in power and they had fled to the mountains to serve Akravator in peace. After that I joined up with the rest of my kind and didn't pay much attention to the human and faerie conflicts.

[This all makes perfect sense to Alex. It will probably be a complete jumble of nonsense to anyone else.]
archeologue: (open shirt archaeology)

[personal profile] archeologue 2014-11-03 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Belloq knows a lot of cultures and a lot of mythologies, and he's never heard anything like this before.]

Excuse me, you say you were crystallizing?

[He nods with a small smile.]

Yes, I am of a race known as the 'Jumi'. We are, for lack of a better term, living gemstones. Though once we're properly formed all of us that remains as a stone is in our cores. [He motions to the necklace.]
archeologue: (pith helmet)

[personal profile] archeologue 2014-11-07 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
["Living genstones" sounds valuable. Belloq is interested.]

What happens then, if your heart stone should be taken away from you?
exiledcore: (Alex Uh-huh)

[personal profile] exiledcore 2014-11-07 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alex falls silent, giving the human a very long, rather unreadable look. Then he carefully adjusts his glasses.]

I would wither away and die.
archeologue: (nazi collaborator)

What a terrible thing, for one's life to be so bound to a single object.

[He says in a sympathetic tone, all the while thinking about how he could do just such a thing and steal it away.]
exiledcore: For Florina (Alex Fight)

[personal profile] exiledcore 2014-11-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[No. Humans never change. Alex sighs, not bothering to hide the look of disappointment. It was naive to think otherwise.]

Perhaps. But it is what it is. I cannot alter my nature. I can only seek to protect myself and edify those that ought already know better.

[The Jumi of Obsidian would envy just how sharp an edge Alex's words took.]
