Test Drive

Test Drive

This is the first test drive for The Last Resort. You can use one of the handy prompts or make up your own.

Prompts

Prompt #1

There's a new drug being passed through the seedy end of the town which gives many bipedal species the temporary ability to shapeshift into someone else of their species. Needless to say it's very dangerous. Are you working on a cure? Currently trying it out to look hot at the bar? Trying to weed out the dealers?

Prompt #2

When a cavespider attacks, usually someone doesn't lose much in the way of memories. They might not even notice what's gone. But your character has been swarmed with them and only remembers half of anything. Try to figure out some things about yourself again by talking to your friends and hope that your memories will be recovered with the reminders. Try not to take advantage of someone and lie to someone with the problem, though. Or do it, you need all the advantages you can get.

Prompt #3

A notable and extremely wealthy alien ambassador has just arrived. He loves luxury but is extremely difficult to please. He is also said to be a collector of rare artefacts and some suspect that he may be here to receive stolen goods. Are you staff complaining about his behavior? A scientist keeping a close eye on the museum collections while the ambassador around? A thief planning a heist with a friend in order to sell the goods to the ambassador?

Prompt #4

Having a drink at Pugsy's bar, because someone has to try the exotic booze. Be careful, some of it's made with blood.

[He doesn't judge, because the Twin's are named Bweryang and Bob. Poor damn Bob and his wierdass name. Centaurians give him such a hard time about it.]

Losin' a few words there, slick? S'alright, happens every once in a while. When I first got bit I couldn't remember what "coffee" was for three days. Thought I was in hell.

[Despite the joke- maybe joke- okay, the short narrative since Kay is completely serious -he's actually worried about him even remembering where he's supposed to go.]

You got people around? Someone I oughta get in contact with for you and tell you you're at the clinic once you're there?
discoursesonlivy: (how'd this plasma pistol get here)

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-05 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently, the spider venom has roughly the same properties as too many shots of tequila.

[If he jokes about it he doesn't have to think about it. Right?

No, no, that's not helping. It's like searching for blank spaces you don't know are there.

Does he have people, though. That's the question. More importantly, are they even here.]

Probably not. If I do, I'd know them through the Courier, but I don't know if they made the trip over here to begin with. [Does the Courier even have a name?

Probably, yeah. But it's long gone.]

That it does. [And he knows a few other things it shares some properties with, which at least leaves him with the very likely hope a lot of it can be reversed. Nothing like experience with a neuralyzer to give a man favorable hope about returning memories.]

["Courier" though, in this neck of the woods, isn't real specific. ]

Alright there. Well, maybe when we get your head screwed on so your brain isn't rattlin' around in there someone you know from around here can get called in for you.

[He hears a spat, like an angry cat (having spiders that make noise is disconcerting) and his blaster makes a charging sound as he clicks the safety off.] I think you got a fan following. [He doesn't see anything, yet. That's the annoying part.]

There really ought to be a standardized amnesia test for times like these. [As far as he knows, they haven't developed one back West yet, but then again, Cazador venom seemed to be a bigger problem than amnesia inducing spiders.

Yeah, he's pretty sure spiders don't do much noise making, either. At least, any of the ones he'd ever heard of. Still he straightens up and turns around towards the ominous hissing sound. He's got a plasma pistol, and he's pretty sure he knows how to use it, so he starts loading some energy (well, microfusion, technically, but who's counting?) cells into the chamber. It's all automatic, really, and maybe he should be a bit concerned about it, but if it means him not getting bit again, he'll just let it go for now. So he knows things about plasma pistols. So do a lot of people, probably. It isn't really a big deal, is it?

It feels like a big deal. He's not sure why. But right now, he's not sure of a lot of things, so let's pay more attention to the spider and less to an amnesia induced existential crisis, thanks.]

Fantastic. Well, can you tell him I'm not giving out any autographs at the moment?

Believe it or not, where I'm from we do got such a thing. Little stuff might slip through the cracks but they should at least notice something important. [And if Arcade's not noticing something important like someone's name, then that's a big mindhole to fall into.]

[The spider that emerges from the nearby trees isn't a cave spider that roamed above ground, thank god. But he shoots it as soon as it appears, right in the uh... face-ish part, the sorta face ...because he's not waiting to see when the post-dark hostility wears off.]

[But once they're in town it shouldn't be a big deal. And the fence isn't too far away.]

OOC: Okay if I ask one of the other fallout players I know to pop in and help Arcade out?
discoursesonlivy: (do a flip)

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Quick, tell us if you can remember your mother's maiden name. [He's talking to himself than anything else.] Sounds pretty handy, anyway. [That one's more out loud.]

[Right, one spider down. However many more to go. Oddly enough, though, he doesn't feel like going on a spider witch hunt at the moment. Go figure.

But town's not far off, he's right about that, and it turns out walking's still pretty easy, even if he's having trouble remember what he ate for breakfast this morning. He's more used to the Med Clinic standing from the opposite end, but at least he doesn't get completely lost on the way up. Down. Whichever.]

(OOC: Go for it!)

You'd be surprised what a job hazard it can be. [It's sort of nice being in the sort of environment where he can freely talk about his regular job and not play cagey bastard 90% of the time. It's a relief, because he can talk to people. And by talk to people, he means tersely and bluntly and sometimes tolerate a few to remain in close proximity, and if they're lucky even joke with them.]

[Maybe if they're lucky. His jokes are pretty awful, unless you like puns.]

Come on, this way. I can give you a ride. [Once they're inside he's headed for his patrol car. He isn't considering that there might be someone Arcade knows even before he reaches it. It actually probably looks like Mr. Gannon's under arrest, poor fella.]

OOC: Alrighty, either Boone or Sybill!Courier can tag after me!

[Sibyll was already at the clinic and not in the best of moods. In her world, cars didn't move and the roads were always clear of vehicles. Unfortunately this was not the case here. The result was that she hadn't gotten run over, but she did break her arm diving out of the way.

She didn't really pay attention to whoever had just entered until a familiar voice reached her ears. One she had never expected to hear ever again.]

Miss? Is something wrong? You went really pale all of a sudden? Is the pain too much?

[The nurse gave her a concerned look as she continued to bandage up the Courier's arm.]

N-no. I'm... [Sibyll took a deep breath and closed her eyes, composing herself.]... fine. Are you almost finished?

Yes, Ms. Sibyll. The bones have been healed, but try to refrain from using your arm for the next day or two.

Thanks.

[Of course there was no back exit to this place. Sibyll's only way out would bring her right to Arcade. Reluctantly she scoots off of the bed and walks out to face the music.]

Arcade, I wasn't expecting to see you here.

[The Courier greeted him with a friendly enough smile, watching his expression intently to the point where she barely even noticed the other man.]
discoursesonlivy: (deepest sighs)

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-07 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not used to cars, either. Well, working ones. And there's a flicker of something nervous, when he steps into the patrol car, but it's just an echo of nervousness past. He thinks, anyway. Cops don't change, they just get different modes of transportation. There's something inherently 15 years old in you that just... sees the lights flashing and starts doublechecking all the things you've done wrong and how far you could run before getting tackled.

Well. At least this 15 year old, anyway. Might not be a universal experience.

Still, he checks into the Med Clinic without any further incident. He knows better than to eavesdrop but unfortunately, his ears still work regardless. Someone brought in with some kind of broken bone and---

Wait. Do they know him?

Because it sounds like they know him.]

Yes, well, unfortunately, the cave spiders had some other ideas. [He feels awkward, and it shows much more than he'd like. Sheepish, and scuffing the back of his neck with his hand.]

wildcard_of_the_desert: (eyebrow raise)

wait, how old is Arcade here?

[personal profile] wildcard_of_the_desert 2014-06-07 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Cave spiders? Guessing they're like the like the critters back home and over-sized.

[Sibyll watches him intently, looking for some flicker of recognition and the inevitable anger. She sees neither. Does he not remember her? That's actually something she should be grateful for. Arcade had made his views on the Legion crystal clear.]
discoursesonlivy: (how'd this plasma pistol get here)

aah he's late 30s, sorry i wasn't clear in the monologue

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
A little quicker on inducing amnesia, but yeah, more or less.

[If she's looking for recognition, she's not really getting it. Confusion, though? Yes, lots of it.]
(OOC: sorry for hopping in out of turn)
wildcard_of_the_desert: (eyebrow raise)

nah, it's fine. I just can't read. XD

[personal profile] wildcard_of_the_desert 2014-06-08 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Well that explained a lot. Now how does she go about thanking cave spiders for some decidedly convenient amnesia.

Maybe a little too convenient?]

I certainly know that feeling. 'Specially since you don't seem to recognize me. I take it you don't remember getting the worst sunburn of your entire life at Helios One, do ya?

[Sibyll lets herself chatter on as she tries to size up Arcade. From what she remembered, he favored evasion and diversion when he lied about something, and he was rather clumsy about it. She had never bothered to uncover what he was hiding. His coverups had been hilarious enough on their own. No, that lack of recognition was genuine.]
discoursesonlivy: (sure he is)

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-10 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes, he totally got amnesia on purpose. What a sound strategy that would be.]

Run that by me again? [Not the slightest clue what she's talking about here. And believe him, he's trying. Nope. Nothing. Helios One rings a bell, but...

He puts a hand to his temples and starts trying to rub away the impending migraine.]
If you're looking for a lecture, you're going to have to wait until modern medicine starts solving this little memory loss problem, sorry.

[But the rest of it....

He's starting to feel a little sick. Well. More sick. But it's hard to sort out what you can't remember from what you don't. And right now...

This seems like something he can't.]
wildcard_of_the_desert: (wide eyed and curious)

[personal profile] wildcard_of_the_desert 2014-06-12 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[No one ever said Sibyll was not crazy paranoid. Particularly now that she was a hero of the Legion.

But his utter confusion leaves her wordless as she stares at him.]

...Wow. You really don't remember anything, do you?

[Her usual, confidant smile loses its edge.]

Do you even remember going to Vegas with the Followers?
discoursesonlivy: (how'd this plasma pistol get here)

[personal profile] discoursesonlivy 2014-06-12 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I'm lucky I remember my own name at this point.

[He's not entirely sure that he does, now that he thinks of it. That migraine's not getting any better or any less impending.]

Vegas... [Neon lights and Securitrons.] Well, it'd be hard to forget a place like that. [Once you've circled it enough times that half your recent memories feature it, or else the lights in the distance.

The Followers, though. Where has he heard that befo--

Oh--]
Or a leader with a mohawk. She did have one.... right? [It's like a lock clicking into place. But that doesn't mean the door'll open all the way. Sometimes it takes a bit of pushing first.

And sometimes it just doesn't wanna budge.]
wildcard_of_the_desert: (hmmm)

[personal profile] wildcard_of_the_desert 2014-06-13 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[At least he did remember his own name. Sibyll could not say the same about herself. But despite whoever that woman was, she was also very dead. Two gunshots to the head had seen to that, and no matter how many Sibyll killed, it had never brought her back.]

Yeah, Julie Farkas. Leader of the Vegas branch of the Followers of the Apocalypse. Your boss, I guess. If you Followers have that sort of thing.
