OOC: The Great Race
The Great Race In order to forget some of the difficulties from previous weeks, Jeffers is arranging some fun for the village in the form of a race. Only there are a few odd stipulations:
 - The race will have unusual animals.
- By unusual we don't mean local horses. Though, if you wanted, you could ride something like an overly large llama or a zebra so long as it wasn't a typical riding animal. The animals are allowed and even expected to be tame of course, but they must be a steed of moderate size from any fandom capable of participating in races. The animals, like humans, are also subject to power caps. (Also the prep period can be spent breaking in a wild one).
- The course will have different terrain.
- The animal you are assigned would have to be one that could run through the forest, through the plains, and over rugged lowland hills. This also means enemies are a risk, but you can armor your steed and also take items that will help regenerate its health if it is attacked.
- What is this about "assigned"?
- That's right. People aren't going to choose their own animals. Their character is volunteered, and has to accept, an invitation to the race. This does not mean you can't participate unless you are ICly volunteered. Instead, it's more of an explanation as to why your character ended up with some bizarre animal to ride in the competition. You don't have to account for who volunteered your character (after all, you're famous in Blackstaff and some people hate or love your public personalities, or just want a good laugh), but if you want you can have another character be at fault for tossing their name into the hat.
- The race will happen with check points.
- Characters reach a check point and stop to rest themselves and their animals. So threads can either happen while racing, or when they reach one of the check points. Results for each check point will be randomized, with each participating PC informed. NPCs will be allowed to participate in this race, so a wide variety can be assumed. Even though a ton of NPCs will be assumed, the NPCs will only have one result when randomized so PCs still stand the greatest chance. However if an NPC is winning, feel free to fist shake at them.
- Prizes are available.
- And can be brought up for mod discussion, but this is the general idea.
1st Place gets their choice of armor enchantment or exotic material, along with an imported item. 2nd Place gets an armor enchantment. 3rd Place gets an imported material. These are absolutely up for negotiation, depending on what the player will find most useful.
The announcements of the race go up, in game, on M12 D9 (March 24-26), so characters can feel free to react and start their training after that. During the training period, other plots will be coming up, so this is a very low commitment event with plenty of time to get involved. The race dates itself will be scheduled for when the most players will be available as comfortably as possible. Characters that join during training and prior to the race itself are elligible. They will just be invited as the others were with less time to train their very special new friend.

ETA: by the way, can Una have an ostrich? Or something in the ratite vein? Mainly because there's a chapter in The English Assassin where Jerry makes an ass out of himself on a South African ostrich farm.
(That being said, will be happy with anything; since everyone else is canon-blind that would be strictly for my own amusement and Una's internal narrative.)

And unless anyone has any fabulous gross steed ideas for him, I'm leaning towards an elum. :>
