Test Drive

Test Drive

This is a test drive for The Last Resort. You can use one of the handy prompts or make up your own.

Prompts

Prompt #1

You're about to leave Pugsy's bar, and you pull out your wallet to pay the tab. It runs away.

Oops.

The wallet was a prop and now you're stuck with a bill you can't pay. Pugsy is irritated, though, with some patrons ripping off tonight so he doesn't really want to just "put it on your tab". Someone else is going to have to cover it for you. Hopefully there's a freind or a potential friend around.

Prompt #2

You got stuck out at night, and you can't make it back to Blackstaff in time. Or you couldn't get the teleporters to lock on to you at your exploration point and you have to wait for a retrieval team. Whatever has happened, you're now stuck up a tree with six terrible little frowning green faces staring up at you as creepers toddle around the tree silently.

Have you called for help and have a rescuer coming? Are you planning an escape with your companion? Or are you passing the time and throwing fruit from the tree down at them.

Prompt #3

Optional. This can even be a potential 1st introductory post or network post asking questions about the setting.

All right, then. I certainly don't mind being a topic of gossip and speculation if you don't.

[And he'll get to see the man's face, which is all he really cares about. The stranger sounds human, but that doesn't always mean anything. Plenty of aliens can pick up idiomatic language.]

Call me Pottinger. Or Niles depending on how formal or informal you prefer to be. And now that you know my name, would you care to tell me yours? It's a bit inconvenient to just call you "battle armour man."

[Honestly, he couldn't give a shit about gossip--unless it's talking about how cool he is in his armor. Or how awesome and handsome he is. He shrugs and waves a hand dismissively.] You're the one who'll be sitting with a man in "battle armor", Niles. You don't mind me calling you Niles, right? [Because there are very few people he'll actually be formal with--and most of those cut him a paycheck at the end of the day. (And even if Niles says yes, he minds being called by his first name despite having offered it, he would still "Niles" anyway.)] Call me Felix.

How about we meet now? I haven't had a meal that didn't consist of expired MREs in...I don't know how long. I've lost count. ...Real food still exists, right?

If I minded, I wouldn't have given out my Christian name to begin with.

You'll be happy to learn that real food does indeed exist here, although some of it is a bit...alien. [Niles made the mistake of ordering gagh once. Never again. Worse than Castithan food.]

What sort of food did you have in mind? Fish and chips...burger and fries...quinoa and kale...

[That earns a quirk of the eyebrow behind his helmet. He doesn't comment on it directly. Instead, he just chuckles and merely says:] Yeah, I guess.

Oh, you have no idea how happy you've just made me. I'll eat anything--though, uh, you can hold the quinoa. Had a bad experience with it once. Got any recs for a place that can feed a starving soldier? Seriously, I could eat a horse right now, so they better be prepared. I remember seeing a map on this thing, so I should be able to find you pretty easily and we can meet there.

Food for a starving soldier? So quantity large, prices low, quality irrelevant.

I've heard good things about F'nayalip and Joe's diner. Inexpensive and genuinely eatable food.

Well, let's not be too irrelevant with the quality.

[He takes a moment to search the map function for this place. Inexpensive and edible don't always go together, but he's willing to give this suggestion the benefit of the doubt.] F'nayalip and Joe's... F'nayalip and Joe's... Ah, here it is. Sounds good to me! [He practically jumps to his feet and heads for the hotel door.] Heading there now. The first person who arrives gets us a booth.
